I have finally finished 2 video shorts on the subject of 'People Watching'. One is about 10 minutes long and the other a little over 20. I hadn't realised that this is such a popular passtime but there are even blogs dedicated to this subject. I have always been an avid people watcher and this is a favoutite activity when sitting at a cafe. I could spend ages just watching people walk by and often do!
This is very short example of a clip I didn't use. It felt contrived to film in locations I don't normally use so in the end the final versions where just compilations of places I normally frequent.

That was one of the first things I missed when moving to America and being stuck in the burbs.
I am glad to say I get in a lot of people watching in Yellow Springs which attracts a lot of strange visitors due to our rep as being a weird hippie village.
Ps. fun to see a little peek on your video of people in your world.
didn't know there was such an interest web wise lol! Love the web.
i didn't know there were sites devoted to that either. i used to do that too...hours of just sitting and watching and writing while watching people.
curious what you will do with your videos...do you have thoughts about it?

It would be interesting to see a Yellow Springs version.

When I can afford it I want to buy a projector and use it in a future (unplanned as yet) exhibition. This is jsut the beginning as far as video shorts go. I have the taste for it now!
it becomes hypnotic.

Yes, I agree - the long films are very hypnotic although I am not sure why!
I will think about it Phillip, just for you :)
I didnt realise there were blogs dedicated to this. I took a video last winter of a man waiting for the metro. I watched people as they waited for the train and found it interesting how each one waited. Some impaciently, others listening to music. There is a little dance impacient people do when they wait. That is what my video tried to reflect.
This is so funny, in 2007 you posted on my blog that your 'hobby' was to people watch. I am glad to see your putting your past time to work into art.
